Christmas for the Animals
|
Christmas For The Animals Another successful
Christmas for the Animals was held December19th at the gazebo
on Main Street in Wellsville. We would like to thank everyone
for participating and a special thank you goes to those who
donate to make this possible. To see a slideshow of this years
event, CLICK HERE
Dr. Sandy and the Community Animal Clinic,
of 2103 St. Clair Ave. in East Liverpool, will now be working
with the Alley Cat Aid Brigade. This means a lot to the ACAB
because it cuts down on our drive time and gasoline costs. Dr.
Sandy has very graciously agreed to work with us on our spaying
and neutering and we all are very appreciative of the work he
will do for us.
Thank you! We would like to personally thank
a few of our biggest contributers by name, as well as all others
whom contribute. MORE

| Our
Mission |
Wellsville has become over-run with
feral (homeless/wild) cats and we need to take humane action
to stop this over-population. A popular and successful method
being used today is called TNR- Trap, Neuter, and Return.
 |
Using
the TNR method, volunteers trap feral cats. They separate
the kittens that can be tamed and and put them up for
adoption. The cats which are unable to be tamed are
tested for disease and those that test positive are
euthanized. Healthy feral cats are taken to low-cost
clinics for vaccinations and neutering or spaying. In
some cases, the vet notches the cats' ears for future
identification so not to be trapped and transported
again.
Once this process is complete, the cats are then returned
to their colony.

Killing the cat does not solve the
problem. Studies have shown that killing a colony
of feral cats does not solve the problem. It simply clears
the colony until another colony moves in, and they will
move in. By TNR, you are eliminating the problem of more
kittens, spraying, and disease. It is a program that takes
some time, patience, money, and a devoted group of volunteers,
but will eventually eliminate the problem.
If you kill all of the cats, we will then most likely be
plagued with a rodent problem. Studies show that cats are
more likely to catch a rodent than they are a bird because
rodents are easier prey. Which would you prefer: a few non-spraying,
non-litter bearing cats or an infestation of rodents?
We are here to help with all animals,
not just cats. Please note that our mission does not
only include cats. We are here to help all animals that
are in need. We are not limiting ourselves to cats.
We will be trying to have leash laws enforced, codes for the
tethering of dogs and a mandatory spay and neuter ordinance.

| Working
In Conjunction With Others Toward a Better Future |
Angels For Animals and the
Humane Society have offered to help Wellsville with
our problem.
Angels For Animals and the Humane Society have agreed
to lend Wellsville the cages needed to humanely trap
the cats and have also arranged to have the spaying/neutering
performed at a discounted cost.
Working in conjunction with these groups not only
proves that Alley Cat Aid Brigade is serious about
helping to control the cat population, but it also
displays a sense of community and how working together
will help to aid in a successful mission.
The Lisbon Veterinary Clinic is now working with Alley Cat Aid Brigade
The Lisbon Veterinary Clinic is now working with Alley Cat Aid Brigade and will do low cost spaying and
neutering for stray cats in Wellsville in conjunction with Alley Cat Aid Brigade. For information,
please call 330-532-9064. But remember, you must go through Alley Cat Aid Brigade for this discounted offer.
Alley Cat Aid Brigade is also offering transportation to anyone who wants to have a cat or dog spayed or
neutered but does not have transportation. We ask for a small donation of whatever amount the person can
afford and only if they are able. This donation is to help with the cost of gas for transporting animals.

| Become
A Volunteer |
1.
Volunteer your time to host a colony: Do you have
cat problem in your neighborhood? Do you want to stop the
colony from growing? Hosting a colony will take a little
time and patience and we need volunteers.
If you are already feeding the cats, why not continue to
do so and at the same time, help them to become a healthier
and happier group? The only difference is that they will
be in a controlled environment with positive results? Contact
us for more information.
2. Volunteer
to trap and transport: There will be a need for
volunteers to transport cats to the clinic and again to
pick them up 24 hours later. Cats will be in cages and are
stackable.
3. Purchase
food for the colonies: If you would like to purchase
food for volunteers hosting colonies, please contact us
for information and details.
